Chocolate American Buttercream

The sweetest of the buttercreams, and easiest to make.

Chocolate American Buttercream

Ingredients

2 pounds unsalted butter (room temperature)

1 pound powdered sugar (sifted)

3/4 cup cocoa powder

2 teaspoons vanilla

1/2 teaspoon salt

1. Bring butter to room temperature (set it out for about an hour)

2. Cream butter using paddle attachment in a stand mixer on medium high speed, until light and fluffy. About 8-10 minutes.

3. Add powdered sugar one heaping spoonful at a time, with the mixer running on low. Mix for 2 more minutes on medium high speed after all the sugar is added

4. Add salt and vanilla, mix for 2 minutes.

5 Remove bowl from stand mixer. Sift cocoa powder over the mixture in thirds, gently incorporating each with a hand whisk.
